Making Of Kelly Land's First CD
Week Two
August 23-29, 2003
Well....gosh. This week we really tried to get
serious about all this.
I mean--we've BEEN serious---but trying to learn the
editing software
is proving to be tedious and overwhelming at times.
I'm sure to anyone out there with production
experience we
look like Dumb and Dumber--but that's ok---we still
haven't paid a dime
for the making of this CD yet. Personally I'm darn
proud of that fact!
And folks have been so supportive. The emails that
came in last week
were inspiring!! I actually sat down to write
something new after
reading how giving people really can be! Maybe if it
gets finished
I'll put on this CD and dedicate it to all of YOU!
B and I talked a long while about trying to stay as
true as possible
to the original recording. Lets face it---there are
many top selling
artists out there that:
A: Don't write their own stuff
B. Can't play an instrument
C. Can't really sing
But.....for some reason--these "artists"---whether
it be they are gorgeous, knew someone
that knew someone, started in acting and slide over
to recording.....etc
They are on the top of the charts. ALOT of doctoring
can go into someone's
recording. You can make THE worst singer----and I
mean the worst--sound
awesome if you are a decent producer.
I refuse to have my music hopped up on production
steroids. Whether I'm
the best singer or the worst singer---I want it to
sound like ME!!! So....I feel
ok that we are limited at this point at what we can
do with this software.
Maybe--in the end--it will help me stay "truer" to
my art than if I had walked
into a professional studio and had someone tear it
down and rebuild it
into something it was never meant to be.
B has been working hard at trying to make our
"studio" comfy and
logistically enhanced! Though it's still a small
spare bedroom--it
feels like the BIG time for me!! I'm happy with
it....and thrilled to have B
helping out. Big Hand for B!! Yeeeaaaaa!!!!!
Look at the computer!! Wow--those are my recorded
voice sound waves!! Yipeee!
I brought my mic stand from home for the guitar mic,
and B used clamps
and some woods blocks to steady the voice mic on a
table edge.
The ladder made a graceful exit.
Look at that fancy clamp work right there!! Woohooo!!
Like that red and white blanket?? That's the extent
of our sound buffing system!!
And with the cicadas outside making their own
music--we HAD to shut all the windows
and block out as much sound as possible.
Some doofus kept riding his moped by the house which
made things REALLY
difficult.
Temperatures soared into the 90's this week! We kept
the fans
running anytime there was no actual recording going
on. I got a
little tuckered at times......and sweaty again---but
ya know....I had
this big ole honkin blanket next to me that acted as
a sound buffer
AND the Kelly sweat and grease blotter!!
Doesn't Ed (the guitar) photograph well? I'm pooped!
B takin pics for this wonderful blog!
I wanted to share some of your letters this week!
They are two
fabulous to leave out!
Gosh--when I started I thought I could put
everyone's email on here--but there are too many to
even try
to attempt! I will put comments on here every week
that I receive--but when there are so many-it's just
really hard! But thank you to EVERYONE for writing
me. I know you are all very busy with your own
lives.
It's special to me that you took the time to read
about my musical escapades!
As usual--thanks for tuning in. More next week.
And if you don't wanna know what's going on--don't
read it!!
Thanks-Kelly
COMMENTS: Yes--I want to hear your comments
regarding this web-log. Well...that is--unless you
have
something so hateful to say that you appear to be
born from the flames of hell. No one needs that
kind of email. But I thought your comments might be
a fun addition. And B and I could certainly
try to take the time to answer some of them.
